About My Approach

Understanding Our Experiences

Being able to understand our experiences is an important part of navigating uncertainty and difficult feelings. I use a combined approach called integrative counselling, what that means is we are going to use different approaches to support whatever you bring, and switch approaches when one approach isn’t working or has served its usefulness and to ensure that the therapy sessions offered are meeting the specific needs of my clients. This means that each session should be productive and fulfilling. This also applies to client perspective: because each client session is tailored to suit client’s needs, and it looks holistically at client’s needs and considers behavioural, affective, cognitive and physiological levels of functioning. This is non-judgemental way of working, you will be able to build an awareness between mind and body, empowering you to a better lifestyle or satisfaction check.

Small Steps, Big Changes

I suspect most people don’t do anything about it because it’s not always easy, our doubtless have developed some unhelpful thinking and corresponding patterns of behaviour, no matter how long you have been in pain you can always find happiness.

Small steps make big changes, so never lose hope in anything, life brings many challenges, and it is understandable that at times we might look for support in facing them. As a counsellor my role is to support you on your personal journey, and I offer empathy, a non- judgemental, and safe confidential space to explore and be listened to, whatever you want to bring and understand your thought and emotions. Together we can explore your situation in a way that leads to new perspectives and perhaps a new understanding of yourself. Counselling isn’t about giving you solutions or advice, but empowering you to make your own changes, prepare you to handle everyday issues with more ease.

Non-Violent Resistance (NVR)

Are you struggling with your child's behavior? Do you find it challenging to stand firm against physical or verbal violence due to a lack of understanding of Autism, mental health, or other factors? Are you struggling with your parenting style? You're in the right place; I can support you.

What is NVR?

Non-Violent Resistance (NVR) was originally developed as an approach to parenting and caring for young people who are violent, risk-taking, aggressive, or self-destructive. This technique is now used in various settings, including communities, schools, and with adults.

How NVR Can Help

Support with NVR enables you to share the problem, making it more likely for you and your child to succeed in reducing violence. Many families experiencing child violence find that they have become increasingly isolated and silent about what is happening. Breaking this silence by involving supporters is a respectful and sensitive way to address the issue.

Main Principles of NVR

Taking a Firm Stand: Against violence, risk-taking, and antisocial behaviors.

Holding Back: From physical or verbal violence.

Stepping Out: Of escalations.

Increasing Presence: Being more positively present in your child's life.

Delayed Response: ‘Strike when the iron is cold.’

Community Support: "It takes a village to raise a child."

My Journey with NVR

I started NVR because I believe in Freud's assertion that our adult behavior is directly influenced by our childhood experiences. Happy and balanced childhood experiences lead to well-adjusted adults. This belief motivated me to become a better parent, and upon discovering NVR, I knew I had to become an NVR Practitioner.

Experience and Training

Since April 2023, I have been delivering NVR groups in CAMHS, offering parents a therapeutic programme accredited by NVR UK Standards. Our NVR-informed training is accessible, experiential, interactive, and driven by passion and enthusiasm. I particularly connect with the use of stories and pictures within NVR, which have proven to yield positive outcomes.

Ongoing Support

I offer ongoing support via phone or email, ensuring that the NVR relationship remains strong with families. This continuous support helps parents discuss mental health struggles more easily with their children, especially teens and young people with Autism and cultural considerations.

NVR Support Groups

10 – weeks Online NVR Parents/Carers Support Group (2 hours per week)

For Organisations Face 2 Face Group therapy is also 10 weeks: providing a supportive group environment where individuals can share experiences and learn from others facing similar challenges.
